About Mark Nemeth

Photography has taken Mark on an amazing journey to many remote wilderness areas throughout Australia. This has encompassed a variety of different types of environments, including hot and dry spinifex deserts, wet tropical rainforests and the alpine wilderness of South West Tasmania. Often he carries camera, food and camping gear for several days on end, in search of those special places to experience and share with others through his photographic images.

Mark was born in the North West Queensland town of Cloncurry in 1962, living there until 1974 when the family moved from this small country town to the big smoke of Brisbane. At that time Brisbane was not much more than a bigger country town.

In the early 1980s, Mark's passion for photography developed alongside a keen interest in extended bushwalking trips and exploring the surrounding natural world. Photography and walking went hand in hand. In those days he never went on a walking trip without his trusty Pentax 35mm camera in his pack, and a tripod strapped on to the back of it. During these years, Mark studied Commercial Illustration at Queensland College of Art, and subsequently found work as a Graphic Designer. He always maintained a passion for photography, spending as much time as possible exploring and photographing the beauty of South East Queensland's remaining wilderness.

In the mid 1990s Mark began studying professional photography, completing Griffith University's Associate Diploma of Arts - Applied Photography in 1997. This course was an introduction to medium format and large format cameras, as well as many other genres of photography including documentary, portraiture, advertising, product and architecture.

Mark acquired a Horseman 6x9cm medium format field camera shortly after finishing this course. All standard aspect photos on this web site have been photographed using this camera.

Whilst working with the Department of Natural Resources, Mark was introduced to panoramic format photography. The Department's Water Resources area purchased a Fuji 6x17cm panoramic camera to update their ageing image library. Mark soon found himself travelling throughout Queensland photographing crops, irrigation methods, dams and other aspects of rural lifestyle.

Mark's passion for the panoramic format was ignited, and he bought a Linhof Technorama 6x17 before heading off on a trip around Australia. Since then he has used this camera extensively throughout Australia capturing the spirit of this wonderful country.

Award

Mark was awarded Silver Merit in the 2000 Cannon Queensland Professional Photographers Awards. This award was presented by the Australian Institute of Professional Photographers for the image titled Piccaninny Gorge.
