Lake Disappointment We camped along the south west edge of Lake Disappointment beside a small inlet. The scene in this photograph is only a small part of this vast expanse of salt. Lake Disappointment was known as Nguyarna by the Kartudjara and Potidjara people who originally lived in this area. Lake Disappointment was named by the explorer Frank Hann in 1897. Hann was in the area exploring the east Pilbara, around Ruddall River. He noticed creeks in the area flowed inland, and followed them expecting to find a large fresh water lake. To his disappointment the lake turned out to be salt. Little Sandy Desert, Western Australia. |
